Flirtation

"Flirtation: Attention without intention" - Max O'Rell

A gaggle of women congregated near the bar, eagerly looking over their shoulders in hopes of seeking out the attentions of someone male and it amused him to no end to see the measures they would go to get it. With hair flipping, teasing the straws of their drinks with graceful tongues and ruby red lips while their heads tilted to make sultry eye contact with a baited gentlemen somewhere in the room. It was so true to say that women mastered the art of flirting. Given, they had the weapons to use at their disposal and damn, they were professionals when it came to using them.

All of them, within the group, were the typical Los Angeles type. Three of them were clearly only at the function to find a toy to play with. Perhaps if they were lucky enough, they would find a poor sap to bend and twist to their liking. His eyes followed their stare to an old gentleman excercising his listening skills while his equally aged wife and a younger, more dashing man engaged her deeply with stories that put Rhett Butler to shame. At least her deliberate giggles and arm touching gave way to enchantment more than flirting, though it could have been both. Cougars weren't his thing, though. His gaze moved back to the group and he noticed then that one blonde seemed to have drifted from her pack. Target was locked on the elder gentleman and Operation: Sugar Daddy had commenced to start.

One by one, the flock of young women dissolved, leaving two rather buxom brunettes to also succeed in what their compadres had already achieved.

A smile curled into the corners of his mouth as he allowed his mind to wander to intimate places. He did love to have more rather than less and the number three always had been his favorite number. Only problem was they appeared to be new at the game.

They stood huddled face to face, nervously laughing while spinning their slender fingers around perfectly coiffed locks of hair while uttering reassured whispers that the other looked absolutely fabulous. Neither looked tainted in the ways that their fellow friends did, which caused him to hold back just a few minutes longer.

It dawned on him then that these two didn't want just a night of fun, they were looking for much more. They could've been rejected lovers of men who didn't want commitment in any form. Like him. They knew nothing of one night stands but it was now painfully obvious that they were in search of something more long lasting.

He didn't need to deliberate on it much further and his eyes retreated to a different corner and to another woman, but, her pretty silver engagement ring dismissed her too. Turning to order another drink, a fiery dark redhead cut through the crowd of mingling partygoers with a look of discovery on her face as she said his name.

Redheads weren't his favorite flavor, but she'd create a nice little appetizer before the main course.
